Tree Planting – Northend Common

Man and woman planting a treeThe Chiltern Society have a tree planting day planned at Northend Common on Tuesday 25th November (10am-1pm) when they will be planting approximately 300 replacement trees in areas along the road where the ash felling took place earlier in the year.

If anyone would like to join on the planting day they would be very welcome – it would be much appreciated if anyone intending to come along could let The Chiltern Society know in advance to help us plan the day.

The trees will be a mix of native broadleaf species including oak, hazel, lime, cherry, field maple and hawthorn which will help bring a more diverse and healthy woodland habitat to the common. They will be young saplings so will require tree guards and stakes. The plan is to plant the trees in groups (as opposed to lining the length of the road) where there is enough light created by the felling for them to thrive. All planting will be set back from the road and they will also plant smaller species and those that coppice well e.g. hazel and field maple closest to the road to reduce future risk as they mature.
